What is Empowered Health?

Empowered Health is a transformative health education program which aims to teach participants:

  • how to change the way they think about the foods they consume
  • how to identify foods that best serve their health
  • how to identify foods that are doing their bodies harm

Benefits which previous participants have attributed to the changes they learned to make in Empowered Health include:

The Basics of the Program

(Of course there’s a lot more to it, but here’s the overview.)

The Psychology of Food

First, we begin by digging into how you think about food. Why do you eat what you eat? Do you eat anything that you KNOW does not serve you? Why? Let’s find out!

More of the Good

Next, we focus on adding more of the “Good Stuff” into our lives. More hydration. More food that nourishes our bodies. More quality sleep. More stress relief. You get the idea!

Vacation from the Bad

Next, we take little a vacation from the bad stuff. It’s not forever. NOTHING in Empowered Health is ever forever. It’s just a little time-out to allow our bodies to settle into a clean, healthy baseline.

Honest Conversations

Finally, you’ll end the vacation from some of those foods and begin to have “Honest Conversations” with them. You will see clearly which foods are the “bad apples” in your life and which nourish & support you.

What You Can Expect

A 13 Week Journey

Three Months. A Quarter of a Year. The Length of a Season. It doesn’t make any difference how you say it. It sounds like a long time, but for what we’ll work to accomplish, it’s only just the start.

We take our time and make changes at a digestible pace (pun intended). We lay down a solid foundation for you to work with your health, and that cannot be done in something as short as a four or even eight week class. In the context of a healthier lifetime, 13 weeks is a tiny drop in the bucket.

 

Step-by-Step Guidance

Week-by-week, we will walk together through the process of making lasting change. Every live class will have the time to ask questions. You’ll be able to ask questions and receive feedback from your instructor and classmates through our private Facebook group page.

And you are ALWAYS welcome to contact your instructor DIRECTLY with any questions you may have.

Understanding

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” —Maya Angelou

When we know better, we can do better. When we ask you to make a change, we want you to first understand WHY you are being asked to make that change.

Why is the food being removed? What is the potential harm of keeping it in the diet? These are the kinds of questions we will ask and answer at each step of the process.

Four Learning Phases

Phase 1: Understanding

We start thinking about how we think about food.

Phase 2: Elimination

We start removing potential offenders from the diet while learning why some bodies have problems with those foods.

Phase 3: Challenge

We stay in a holding pattern to allow our bodies time to acclimate to the changes made in the Elimination Phase.

Phase 4: Integration

It’s time to re-integrate some of the eliminated foods and observe the body’s reaction.

Three Primary Goals

  1. Decrease Inflammation 
  2. Increase Insulin Sensetivity
  3. Metabolic Flexability

If you don’t know what these things mean or why you would want them, don’t worry, because you will by the time we finish the class.

Minor Goals

    These are too many and too individualized to list.

    Mid-Week Power Ups

    While changing eating habits and working with the foods we eat is at the core of Empowered Health, food choice is not the only change that we can make to improve our overall health.

    This is where the Mid-Week Power Ups come into play. On many (but not all) weeks, you will receive a mid-week video lecture that introduces simple (no-cost) practices that you can bring into your daily routines, which can make tremendous impact on your overall health.

    Aha Moments

    As we discussed above, when you’re asked to make a change in Empowered Health, you will first gain some understanding of WHY you’re being asked to make that change.

    But even with understanding, sometimes we resist. Our inner voice tries to rationalize why the change isn’t going to work for us.

    The real power of Empowered Health is going to come from actually EXPERIENCING what happens when we make these changes in our daily habits.

    You may find that foods you didn’t think you could ever imagine not enjoying daily, no longer hold any interest for you. Or you may find that your relationship with that food is completely different at the end of this 13 week journey.

    In the end, you’ll never know unless you try. The more you commit to the program, the more you’ll get out of it.

    Our Format for this 13 Week Journey

    Weekly Live Zoom Calls

    Starting the second week of class, we will meet for weekly Zoom Q&A/Community Support calls on Mondays.

    Weekly Zoom calls are a chance for you to come together with your fellow classmates and ask questions, express struggles, and receive support from those making the same changes that you are.

    All Zoom calls are recorded & posted to the private Facebook group in case you can’t attend or would like to re-watch later.

    Pre-Recorded Video Lectures

    You will receive two to three prerecorded video classes each week. Videos will arrive by email and be posted in our private Facebook group for you to watch at your convenience.

    These videos will present the core class teachings, introduce additional support practices,  and provide information about upcoming dietary change recommendations.

    Community Support

    Empowered Health utilizes a private Facebook group as a central location for communications, video & document postings, as well as interactions between participants.

    This is a great place to post comments, questions, concerns, and struggles that you may face during the program. Group support is one of the strongest benefits of the program.
